Abstract

This essay is part of a series of submersions and drifts arising from the Brevísima
relación de la destrucción de las Indias, by Fray Bartolomé de las Casas, involuntarily triggered by the “Psycopathia lascasiana” as consecrated by Menéndez Pidal. This paper attempts the analysis of how Lascasian “style” —as addressed by André Saint-Lu— is linked with “obsession”, the inquiry of its sources in a double “illumination” or “conversion”, and the search for connections and resonances in the chronicler’s writing pointing, on one hand, towards Freud’s “Wolf Man” —reviewed by Deleuze and Guattari— and, on the other hand, towards the “war (and conquest) machines” articulated by the latter, to build and arm a true “system of cruelty”.
