Abstract

The article proposes a study of the resources and procedures that define the work of the Guatemalan Rodrigo Rey Rosa: reading, writing, translation, appropriation and creation are style-forging devices. Reading possibilities begin to multiply by reassuming other aspects that make up the history of the novel, for example, terror and violence. The network of these elements in The Pelican Project is what is here called “the lure of fiction”: a writing space where genres and discursive tones cross, generating, on one hand, tensions between one another and, on the other hand, a paradoxical lightness where chance and laughter run paired with the political and scientific dimensions of the ethical commitment of language.
