"La vorágine": animism and hallucination

Abstract

La vorágine is, without a doubt, one of the greatest and most disruptive works of Latin American fiction. Its radical psychological challenge and experimental nature make it unique among novels that take the jungle as an object of their reflection —aesthetic and spiritual—. The intention of this work is to penetrate in a precise way, with an approach as attentive as possible to the text, as close to it as possible, some animistic and hallucinatory aspects present in the book, but which take on particular significance when observed from the perspective of a jungle subjectivity, allied or in conflict with indigenous or “alien” universes —“conquerors”—, phantasmatically present in rituality and cruelty.
