Storytelling in Walter Bejamin: craftsmanship in riuns
Abstract
The present article tries to offer a theoretical basis for the understanding of storytelling as craftsmanship in Wlater Benjamin and of its ris as such in the Middle Ages, as well as its decline in the Modern Era. The form of craftmanship, whose peak is found in the Middle Ages as an infrastructure element, was expressed in the cultural productions at the timme, that is, in its superstructure; for example, in storytelling. That happened through the mimetic faculty of humans, who draw from the reservoir stored in ther unconscious, which included images of production processes in society; it follows that the closeness of storytelling to the crafting classes favors the expression of this productive form in its characteristics. The decline of storytelling in the Moder Era is mainly explained, among other reasons, because of the disappearance of the artisanal form of production. However, this phenomenon is not considered, from Benjamin's point of view, as a specific form of decline, but as the result of history as a permanent catastrophe.Downloads
