The confluence of history and cinema in the film Morelos by Antonio Serrano
Abstract
In this work on the film Morelos by Antonio Serrano, we will observe, at the confluence of history and cinema, the discursive features that mark a contrast between the historiography on the Independence of Mexico and the fictional film narrative that seeks to humanize the hero José María Morelos y Pavón by choosing his love life as the central axis of the plot. The filmic drama depicts the hero with his worries, sorrows, desires and ideals; emotions that can only be represented in the fictional construction and that show the film director's intentions to distance themselves from the "official" historical texts inherited from the revolutionary state that emerged after 1910. The historical interpretation that underlies the film follows the tradition of nineteenth-century historiography.Downloads
