About the Journal

Focus and Scope

Inflexiones is an academic journal, specialized in Social Sciences and Humanities. It is devoted to original, unpublished texts with the aim of spreading awareness on the results of ongoing research. Its pages are aimed to researchers, specialists, and interested persons, specially in regards to the following thematic axes:

  • “Representation” in its diverse definitions
  • Intellectual history
  • Heritage and archives
  • Culture, identity, and interculturality
  • Territorial studies and local management
  • Migration processes

The journal aims to spread research articles, academic essays, and critical reviews that contribute to broaden the knowledge on the subject areas and foster dialog and reflection. It also includes a graphical or audiovisual feature, meant to explore the concept of “representation” beyond the written form.

Peer Review Process

Inflexiones will send an acknowledgment within fifteen days after receiving an article for its preliminary evaluation by the Editorial committee.

Once the formal requirements have been cleared by the journal, the work will be sent to two external arbiters who will anonymously determine to: A) publish without changes, B) publish when some minor corrections have been made, C) publish once a profound revision has been done, or D) reject.

· If there’s a discrepancy between both results, the text will be sent to a third arbiter and the publication will be up for the editors’ consideration.

· The results of the academic verdict will be unappealable in all instances and will be communicated to the authors within six months.

· Every issue of the journal will be integrated by articles previously approved by at least two arbiters.

· If the result of the verdict is favorable, the author will hand in the proofread version of the text in accordance to what arbiters requested within 30 days from the date the communication sent by the editorial committee was received.

· Along with the revised text, a document indicating the changes done should be annexed.

· Once the text is accepted, it cannot be further modified.

· The editorial management reserves the right to proofread and make necessary editorial changes to improve the work.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Ethics code

Editorial Committee responsibilities and behavior

The Editorial Committee:

  • Define and makes public the guidelines for the publishing of articles in the journal.
  • Chooses the works that correspond to the journal’s editorial line and fulfill the essential academic requirements for a science paper related to the public opinion.
  • Promotes academic and scientific standards in the journal contents.
  • Defines the evaluation criteria and makes them know to authors.
  • Ensures compliance with the review processes (i.e. “double blind” or “peer reviewed” verdict), by making sure that the chosen works have been reviewed by two or more experts on the subject while safekeeping the anonymity of the reviewers and authors.
  • Shall remain available to justify and analyze any controversy arising from the reviewing process.

Editor responsibilities and conduct

The editor takes responsibility for everything published in the journal. The editor shall make efforts to satisfy the needs of readers and authors, to constantly improve the journal, to ensure the quality of published works, and to take all necessary actions to elevate the academic and scientific standards of the journal. On the other hand, the editor shall be willing to publish amendments, clarifications, retractions, and apologies whenever it is necessary.

  • The editor’s decision to accept or reject any work for publication shall be based solely on the paper’s importance, originality, clarity, and relevance to the journal.
  • The editor is committed to safeguard confidentiality during the review process; authors’ identity cannot be disclosed to reviewers. Neither the reviewers’ identity shall be disclosed at any time.
  • The editor has the responsibility of deciding which papers are acceptable for publication, in accordance to the journal’s guidelines and criteria, and the Editorial Committee has the final decision on which papers are to be published.
  • The editor takes on the responsibility of properly informing authors what stage of the editorial process their work is undergoing at the time, as well as the review conclusions.
  • An editor must evaluate manuscripts and their content without distinction of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, nationality, or political beliefs of the authors.
  • Neither the editor nor any member of the editorial staff shall disclose any information about a received manuscript to anyone else, besides its authors, reviewers, reviewer candidates, or other editorial consultants.
  • None of the submitted unpublished materials shall be used in personal research by the editor, unless the authors give permission in writing. Privileged information or ideas obtained through the peer review process are confidential and will not be used for personal benefit.
  • The editor shall make fair, impartial decisions and guarantee a fair, adequate peer reviewing process.

Authors responsibilities

  • Authors must guarantee that the manuscripts are their original, personal production and that the data has been acquired in ethical manner. Also, they must guarantee their works have not been previously published nor are they being considered for publication on other medium. A work will be considered previously published in any of the following circumstances:

a) when the full text has been published;

b) when the text submitted to the journal is comprised of considerable excerpts of previously published materials.

c) when the submitted work is contained in published conference proceedings.

These criteria refer to previous publications in any language, in either print or digital media.

  • To have their works published, authors must adhere strictly to the rules contained in Manual for collaborators, as defined by the Editorial Committee.
  • Authors must provide a precise description of the work they did, as well as an objective argument about its importance. Underlying data should be accurately represented in the paper. The document must include sufficient detail and references to allow others to employ it. Fraudulent or purposefully inexact statements represent an unethical behavior and are unacceptable.
  • Authors have to ensure they have written their original work in its entirety, and if the work or words of others have been used, these must be properly referenced. Plagiarism in all its forms is unethical editorial behavior and thus it is unacceptable. Therefore, any manuscript found to have committed plagiarism shall be discarded and not considered for publication.
  • In general, an author should not publish manuscripts that describe essentially the same research in more than one journal or primary literature media. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal is an unethical behavior and its publication is unacceptable.
  • Sources must be properly referenced. Authors must reference the publications that have been influential to the submitted work. Information obtained by private means, such as conversations, mailing, or discussion with third parties, cannot be used unless permission has been granted by the source in writing.
  • Authorship must be restricted to those who made significant contributions to the study’s conception, design, execution or interpretation. Every person that made significant contributions must appear as coauthors. The main author or authors must make sure that all coauthors are included in the paper, as well as ensure that they have read the document’s final version, approve it, and agree to submit it for publication.
  • All authors should disclose in their manuscript any conflict of interests, financial or otherwise, that may influence the results or interpretation of the manuscript. All sources of financial support for the project must be disclosed.
  • If an author discovers an error or significant inaccuracy in the published text, it is their obligation to immediately notify the journal’s director or the Editorial Committee, and to cooperate with the editor for a retraction or correcting the work.

Reviewers responsibilities

  • Reviewers commit to notify any unethical behavior from authors and point out any information that might give grounds to reject the papers’ publication. Additionally, they commit to keep the confidentiality of all information related to the papers they review.
  • To review works, reviewers must have the directives for the task. These directives will be provided by the editor and shall be considered for the reviewing process.
  • All selected reviewers must notify the editor as soon as possible if they are qualified to review the research in a manuscript or if they are unavailable for the task. In that case, they may propose another colleague to participate in the process.
  • All manuscripts received for reviewing have to be handled as confidential documents. They should not be shown or discussed with other experts, unless the editor gives proper authorization.
  • Reviewers should handle themselves with objectivity. Personal critiques to authors are inappropriate. Reviewers should express their opinions with clarity and valid arguments.
  • Privileged information or ideas obtained through the peer review process are confidential and will not be used for personal benefit.
  • Reviewers shall not evaluate manuscripts that represent a conflict of interests.
  • The editor will keep constant communication with reviewers during the papers review process.
